Marc Mommaas

New York Jazz Workshop co-founder and co-director, Marc Mommaas, is an accomplished performer and educator. During his study in Amsterdam he combined his musical development with a university education (Master’s in Comm.Science/Business). In 1997, after being awarded two Dutch grants (Stichting Podium Kunsten, Prins Bernard Fonds Anjer Fondsen), he made New York City his residence. Marc attained a Master’s in Jazz Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. Upon graduating he was awarded the prestigious William H. Borden Award.

Marc has toured the world with many formations including his own group Landmarc, the Amina Figarova sextet, and groups lead by Tony Moreno, Tim Horner, Armen Donelian and many more. He has played all the main stages, from the Newport Jazz Festival to Carnegie Hall, and is a recording artist with Sunny Side Records.

In addition to his career as a saxophonist and improviser, Marc leads workshops all over the world for conservatories, major universities and corporations. Most recently Marc, along with Jazz Workshop co-founder, Marco Chelo, created a series of workshops that are being held every year at Bogacizy University in Istanbul and another series of workshops for the Apollonia Foundation in Skopje. In reference to teambuilding activities, Marc presents the very successful segment on “leadership”.

Marco Is a musician and entrepreneur who In 2008 co-founded the New York Jazz Workshop, with Marc Mommaas. In the last eight years the New York Jazz Workshop has become a force to be reckoned with in the New York Music scene, offering 16 weekly workshop and 12 summer programs, providing work to many New York based musicians, booking live music events and traveling internationally to offer workshops and outreach music programs to various organizations and universities.

Prior to creating the New York Jazz Workshop, Marco owned and operated a large Italian travel agency franchise “Viaggiare Network” and a web development company. Marco handles the logistics, course development with Marc, and administrative tasks in connection with the teambuilding operation.
